It
means a shot at the big leagues for West Hills College Coalinga student Braxton
Lorenzini.
Lorenzini,
a right handed pitcher who played the 2015 season with the Falcons baseball team,
has signed with the San Diego Padres and will likely start on their rookie
affiliate. He was a 33rd round draft pick, number 987 overall.
“As
much as it’s sad to see him leave the program, I am very happy for Braxton and
wish him nothing but success,” said Falcons baseball coach Stefan McGovern. “I
know that having him drafted tells us that we’re bringing in the right type of
players into our program and will also help us with future recruiting.”
In
the 2015 season, Lorenzini posted a 1-7 win loss record with the Falcons and a
4.30 ERA. He was in the top 5 in the Central Valley Conference in strikeouts averaging
nearly one strikeout per inning pitched.
He
joined the WHCC team after transferring from Central Christian College in
Kansas following a medical hardship waiver. He attended WHCC from August 2014
to May 2015.
